Chemical property:

Benzyl acetate is hardly soluble in water and difficult to hydrolyze. When hydrolyzed with an alcohol solution of alkali in acetone solution, acetic acid and benzyl alcohol are generated. The hydrolysis rate was 10%, 35% and 46% at 20 ℃ for 1 hour, 3 hours and 5 hours respectively. Toluene and acetic acid were obtained by hydration at 180 ℃ with nickel as catalyst. Benzyl benzoate was synthesized by heating methyl benzoate with sodium ethoxide or sodium methoxide in the presence of chloroform (yield 30% ~ 50%). Benzyl acetate is chlorinated at 150 ~ 170 ℃ to form benzoyl chloride and acetyl chloride. It reacts with bromine at room temperature to form o - or p-bromobenzoyl bromide. When heated to the boiling point, bromoethane and benzoyl bromide are also formed. Benzyl acetate is heated together with sodium metal, and the product is decomposed with dilute sulfuric acid to form hydrogenated benzyl cinnamate and dibenzyl ether. Other products include cinnamic acid, benzyl acetoacetate, benzyl alcohol and toluene. Benzyl acetate can be quantitatively obtained by heating benzyl acetate with absolute ethanol or sodium acetate dehydrated at 160 ℃.

Experimental method:

Add 30g benzyl alcohol, 30g acetic anhydride and 1g anhydrous sodium acetate into a 100ml three necked flask with a spherical condenser tube, stir and raise the temperature to 110C, and reflux for 4-6h. After the reaction is cooled down, slowly add 15% sodium carbonate aqueous solution with stirring until no bubbles are released, and then wash the organic phase with 15% sodium chloride aqueous solution until it is neutral. The organic phase was separated and the crude product was dried with a small amount of anhydrous calcium chloride. Add a small amount of boric acid to the crude product for vacuum distillation (), and collect the 98 ~ 100C fraction to obtain the product. Weigh the product, calculate the yield, and measure its refractive index for inspection.

 

Synthesis of benzyl acetate method II:

Add anhydrous sodium acetate, benzyl chloride, catalyst tebac and distilled water in order according to the experimental design proportion in a four necked flask equipped with a stirrer, a reflux condenser and a thermometer.
