Furfural liquid is a pale yellow to amber transparent oily liquid obtained by hydrolyzing and dehydration refining of agricultural and forestry wastes (such as corn husks, sugarcane residues, etc.). It emits a unique aroma of almonds and baking. Its core value lies in being a high-performance biobased platform compound. The furan ring and aldehyde group in its molecular structure give it high reactivity. It can be widely used as a green solvent in petroleum refining, dye synthesis, and resin production. Moreover, through hydrogenation and oxidation processes, it can be derived into high-value-added chemicals such as furfuryl alcohol, tetrahydrofuran, and furan resins, which are integrated into industrial chains such as medicine, pesticides, and synthetic fibers. As a key bridge connecting renewable resources and the fossil economy, it not only effectively reduces the chemical industry's reliance on traditional petroleum resources, but also promotes the development of green circular economy through the "transforming waste into treasure" model, demonstrating significant environmental protection value and industrial potential.

Manufacturing Information

Synthetic furfural:

1. One step method is a two-step reaction of pentosan hydrolysis and pentose dehydration to produce furfural, which is completed in the same hydrolysis pot at one time.

One step process has been widely used in furfural industry due to its low equipment investment and simple operation. After decades of development, the production process and technology of furfural have been greatly improved, from the initial single pot cooking to the multi pot series and continuous production process.

One step process has high steam consumption, low furfural yield and a large amount of waste residue. At present, the method of treating the waste residue in the furfural production plant is mainly to use the coal cinder co combustion technology to use the furfural waste residue as the fuel for generating steam.

2. In the two-step method, pentosan was first hydrolyzed at about 100 ℃ to produce pentose, and then the pentose was dehydrated and cycled at a higher temperature to produce furfural.

In the early 1940s, J.W. Dunning and others earlier studied the two-step preparation process and used a set of continuous equipment to prepare furfural using sulfuric acid as catalyst and corncob as raw material. After that, many researchers have done a lot of work. In the first step, pentosan is hydrolyzed to pentose under mild conditions, and the process is very mature. The yield of pentose reaches more than 95%. The focus of the two-step process research is on the second step, namely, the dehydration and cyclization of pentose to produce furfural.

Chemical

The two-step process is relatively complex, with high equipment investment. The process conditions for the second step dehydration are not very mature, and it has not been widely applied in industrial production. Biomass contains a lot of hemicellulose and cellulose, which can be hydrolyzed by acid to produce Furfural liquid or furfural series organic products. In the process of hydrolysis, gasoline or diesel oil is used to dynamically extract part of furfural and other hydrolysates dissolved in oil products directly, which indirectly increases the available amount of fuel and achieves the purpose of producing biological liquid fuel.
