Potassium bromide powder is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula KBr. Colorless crystal or white powder with strong salty taste. The light color turns yellow, odorless, salty and slightly bitter. It is easy to turn yellow and slightly hygroscopic when exposed to light. Soluble in water and glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution is neutral. Its bromine ion can be replaced by fluorine and chlorine. It can react with sulfuric acid to generate hydrogen bromide. It reacts with silver nitrate to form yellow silver bromide precipitate.

Slightly hygroscopic. 1g is dissolved in 1.5ml water, and the aqueous solution is neutral. Irritating. It is mainly used for spectral analysis, drop analysis and determination of copper and silver, polarographic analysis of indium, cadmium and arsenic, and developer. It is used for making silver bromide paper, as well as analytical reagent, and medically as a psychoactive agent.

Chemical reaction of potassium bromide powder:

Potassium bromide is a typical ionic compound, which is completely ionized and neutral after being dissolved in water. Commonly used to provide bromine ions - the following important reactions can produce silver bromide for photography:

KBr(aq) + AgNO3(aq) → AgBr(s) + KNO3(aq)

Bromine ion Br - in aqueous solution can form complexes with some metal halides, such as:

2 KBr(aq) + CuBr2(aq) → K2[CuBr4](aq)

The traditional preparation method is iron bromine method: first, use excessive bromine and iron filings to generate ferric tribromide octahydrate (Fe3Br8 · 16H2O) in water, then act with the boiling potassium carbonate solution, filter out the ferric oxide precipitation, concentrate and crystallize to obtain:

4 K2CO3 + Fe3Br8 → 8 KBr + Fe3O4 + 4CO2

Usage

Potassium bromide (KBr) is an important inorganic compound with a wide range of applications. It is a colorless cubic crystal or white particle or powder, odorless, salty and slightly bitter in taste, soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in ether.

Preparation method of potassium bromide powder:

1

Electrolysis:

The potassium bromide synthesized from bromine and potassium hydroxide is dissolved in distilled water to prepare electrolyte. After electrolysis for 24h, the first batch of crude products is produced. After that, the crude products are taken every 12h. After the potassium bromide is removed by water washing, the crude products are distilled and hydrolyzed. A small amount of potassium hydroxide is added to adjust the pH value to 8. After heat preservation for 0.5h, the filter is filtered. The clarified filtrate is cooled to room temperature in the crystallizer. After crystallization, separation, drying, the potassium bromate product is prepared.

2

Chlorine oxidation method:

After the lime milk reacts with bromine, chlorine gas is introduced for chlorine oxidation reaction, and the reaction is terminated when the pH value reaches 6~7. After slag removal, evaporate the filtrate. The barium chloride solution is added to react to generate barium bromate precipitate, the filtered precipitate is suspended in water at a certain temperature and added to potassium carbonate for double decomposition reaction. The crude potassium bromate is washed with a small amount of distilled water for many times, and then filtered, evaporated, cooled, crystallized, separated, dried and crushed to obtain edible potassium bromate products.

3

Bromine potassium hydroxide method:

With industrial bromine and potassium hydroxide as raw materials, potassium hydroxide is dissolved into a solution with 1.4 times the mass of water, and bromine is introduced with constant stirring. When bromine is added to a certain amount, white crystals will be separated to obtain crude potassium bromate.

Continue to add bromine until the liquid is pink. When bromine is added, cold water is constantly added to the solution to prevent bromine volatilization loss due to excessive temperature. Re crystallize repeatedly, filter, dry, and then dissolve it with deionized water. Add a small amount of potassium hydroxide to remove the excessive bromine during synthesis. Re crystallize once. Finally, take it out for crystallization and dry to get the finished product.
