Sodium polyacrylate solution, chemical formula (C3H3NaO2) n, is a new functional polymer material and important chemical product. The solid product is white or light yellow block or powder, and the liquid product is colorless or light yellow viscous liquid. It is insoluble in ethanol, acetone and other organic solvents. It will not decompose when heated to 300 ℃. Long lasting viscosity changes very little and is not easy to corrupt. Easily affected by acid and metal ions, the viscosity decreases. The maximum amount of sodium polyacrylate added is 0.2% according to the provisions of GB2760-19962000 supplementary varieties. The amount of sodium polyacrylate is affected by different food types, raw material quality, formulas and production processes. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the optimal amount through experiments. In particular, pay attention to the misunderstanding that the more grams you take, the better the effect. The reference amount is generally 0.02%~0.1%.
Compared with other thickeners, sodium polyacrylate has the most significant advantage of high thickening efficiency. Its viscosity is about 15-20 times that of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and sodium alginate. Its disadvantage is that it has poor salt resistance and hard water resistance. Its solubility and viscosity will decrease in salt water and hard water. Therefore, it is best to use soft water to dissolve it in application and separate it from salt. If hard water can only be used due to limited conditions, hard water resistant thickener can be used.

 

Preparation of sodium polyacrylate solution:

1. Add deionized water and 34kg chain transfer agent isopropanol into the reactor in turn and heat them to 80~82 ℃. Add 14kg ammonium persulfate and 170kg monomer acrylic acid aqueous solution (deionized water) by dropping. After dripping, the reaction lasts for 3h. Cool to 40 ℃, add 30% NaOH aqueous solution, neutralize to pH 8.0~9.0, and evaporate isopropanol and water to obtain liquid product. Spray drying is used to obtain the solid product acrylic acid or acrylate, which reacts with sodium hydroxide to obtain sodium acrylate monomer. The by-product alcohols are removed. After concentration and pH adjustment, the monomer is polymerized with ammonium persulfate as catalyst to obtain sodium acrylate monomer, which is polymerized with acrylic acid and sodium hydroxide, and then polymerized into sodium polyacrylate under the catalysis of ammonium persulfate. Add sodium polyacrylate with relative molecular weight of 1000~3000 into the reactor, Prepare 30% aqueous solution.

2. Polymerization method: add a certain amount of deionized water into a 500mL four necked flask equipped with agitator, reflux condenser, thermometer and drop funnel, then add the chain transfer agent sodium bisulfite (the amount accounts for 4.5% of the system mass), stir and dissolve, heat up to 65 ℃, and start dropping the monomer acrylic acid and initiator ammonium persulfate aqueous solution. The mass fraction of monomer acrylic acid accounts for 30% of the system, and the mass fraction of ammonium persulfate accounts for 0.06% of the system. The dropping time is 3h, and the temperature is kept for 3h after dropping. Neutralize with 30% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution to pH value of 7~7.5 to obtain colorless, viscous, low molecular weight sodium polyacrylate solution.

 

3. lotion polymerization: the monomer solution is neutralized by acrylic acid through sodium hydroxide solution, and then a small amount of acrylamide is added. In a 250mL reaction flask, add monomer solution and sodium dodecyl sulfonate, stir them and mix them evenly. At the same time, apply nitrogen and deoxygenate for 20min, and add reducing agent, emulsifier, solvent and oxidant. The system was heated to 45 ℃, and polymerization was completed after 4 hours. When the temperature rises to a certain amount of water, stop the reaction. Finally, the reaction solution is filtered and dried to obtain powdered product (PAA Na).
