Is Sodium Bromide Hazardous?

May 19, 2022 Leave a message

Sodium bromide is readily soluble in water; the aqueous solution is medium and has conductivity. Slightly soluble in alcohol, soluble in acetonitrile and acetic acid, and can react with dilute sulfuric acid to produce hydrogen bromide. Under acidic conditions, it can be oxidized and free bromine. It can be used for cadmium micro-determining, manufacturing bromide, inorganic and organic synthesis, etc. It is slightly harmful to water. Do not let undiluted or large quantities of products contact groundwater, waterways, or sewage systems. Store in a dry, calm, and well-ventilated place. It shall be protected from sunlight exposure, isolated from fire and heat sources, and not be stored and transported with ammonia, oxygen, phosphorus, antimony powder, and alkali. Keep away from wood chips, shavings, straw, etc., to prevent burning.

In medicine, it is used as a nerve tranquilizer, analytical reagent, and microanalysis to determine cadmium content; It is also used for organic synthesis and preparing emulsion for photography with silver nitrate solution. Gradually add ferric bromide into the boiling sodium carbonate solution when the key is neutral, and filter and evaporate the filtrate to precipitate crystals. It depends on the concentration of bromine ions in the cerebral cortex and can enhance the engagement of bromine ions. It is mainly used to treat neurasthenia, mental excitement, anxiety, etc. it is also used to treat pruritus skin diseases. it has a wide range of uses. It can be used for the micro determination of cadmium and the manufacture of bromide. The photosensitive industry is used to prepare photosensitive film solutions. Medically, it is used to produce diuretics and sedatives. It is used to make synthetic spices in the flavor industry and is a brominating agent in the printing and dyeing industry. In addition, it is also used in organic synthesis.

Synthetic method of sodium bromide -- neutralization method

The different raw materials used can be divided into two kinds: one process is the reaction of sodium hydroxide and hydrobromic acid; The second is the reaction of sodium carbonate with hydrobromic acid. The reaction process is as follows (take NaOH as an example): about 40% hydrobromic acid is added to the reactor, and 40% caustic soda solution is slowly added under stirring for neutralization to pH7 is generated at 5 ~ 8 hours, and the finished product of which is prepared by evaporation, crystallization, and centrifugation. Total reaction equation, method (1) HBr + NaOH → NaBr + H2O; Method (2) HBr + Na2CO3 → NaBr + H2O + CO2 ↑

The neutralization process is simple, and the product quality is good, but it also has disadvantages. Method (1) the cost of using sodium hydroxide is high; The heat released from the neutralization reaction in method (2) will make the bromine dissolved in hydrobromic acid escape carbon dioxide and pollute the environment.

The finished products of sodium bromide in medicine have the effects of calming nerves, relieving spasms and sedation, which may lead to allergy, vomiting, and other symptoms. The drug can be used to treat all kinds of epilepsy and neurosis. However, the medicine may cause some adverse reactions, such as skin rash, exfoliative dermatitis, and other symptoms in individual patients. In addition, drowsiness, dizziness, asthma, and other symptoms may occur, and the above reactions will disappear after drug withdrawal. However, it should be noted that most front-end chemicals provided by the company are only used in laboratories and chemical experiments.
