Sodium bromide is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula of NaBr. It is a colorless cubic crystal or white granular powder, odorless, salty, and slightly bitter. It quickly absorbs water and agglomerate in the air, but it does not deliquesce. It can be used in photosensitive, perfume, printing and dyeing, micro determination of cadmium, manufacture of bromide, inorganic and organic synthesis, photographic paper plate, etc.It is used in industry and functions according to different industries. It is mainly used to make film photosensitive solutions in the photosensitive industry; Medically, it produces diuretics and sedatives and treats neurasthenia, nervous insomnia, mental excitement, etc. The sedative dissociates bromine ions in the body, which slightly affects the central nervous system and can calm the excited chickens. Oral administration is easy to absorb, but excretion is slow. It is used to alleviate the stress of chickens caused by herd transfer, beak breaking, drug injection, immunization, capture, blood collection, or drug poisoning.; Used in the flavor industry to produce flavor components; Used as a brominating agent in the printing and dyeing industry.

Reduction method of synthetic 1 -- urea recovery method

Dissolve soda ash (sodium carbonate) and urea with hot water, send them to the reverberatory furnace, and slowly participate in the bromine reaction to produce it. Then the sodium bromide product was obtained by decolorization, filtration, evaporation crystallization, centrifugal separation, and drying with activated carbon. The response equation is as follows. In the neutralization method, about 40% hydrobromic acid is added to the reverberator and then slowly added to a 40% caustic soda solution for neutralization. When the pH value is 7.5 ~ 8, sodium bromide is generated. Its products are prepared after centrifugation, evaporation, crystallization, and centrifugation. The reaction equation is as follows:

  • Sodium carbonate and urea are dissolved in hot water.

  • Bromine is introduced.

  • It is recovered, decolorized, filtered, evaporated, and crystallized with activated carbon.

Reduction method of synthetic 2 -- hydrogen peroxide reduction method

It is mentioned in the patent that hydrogen peroxide is added while stirring to remove free bromine until the solution changes from light red to colorless. Because of the high cost of hydrogen peroxide, this method can only be used in a small amount in the later stage of the whole process.

Reduction method 3 of synthetic -- iron filings reduction method (i.e., iron bromide method)

Iron filings are reduced by a direct reaction of iron and bromine to form ferrous bromide, which is then azeotroped with sodium carbonate. The by-product is basic ferrous carbonate, which turns into colloidal ferrous and high iron compounds after boiling, and the filtration is very slow. To avoid this disadvantage, it is best to add bromine twice, and the final product is mainly iron oxide, so it is easy to filter and wash.

Reduction method of synthetic 4 -- sodium oxalate reduction method

In the sodium oxalate method, the purified bromine is introduced into high-purity sodium oxalate to prepare pure sodium bromide aqueous solution. The precipitated dihydrate is taken out and recrystallized with water. Dissolve the crystal in a small amount of water, drop it into bromine water to make it slightly colored, heat it, decolorize it with hydrogen sulfide solution and boil it directly to precipitate most anhydrous substances, remove a small amount of residual mother liquor, continue heating, dry it, move it into a dryer, dry it at 110 ℃ for 1 hour, and then cool it to obtain sodium bromide. The cost of using sodium oxalate in this process is high.

The storage method should be stored in a dry, calm, and well-ventilated place. Avoid exposure to the sun, cut off the fire and heat source, and do not store it together with ammonia, oxygen, phosphorus, antimony powder, and alkali. Keep away from sawdust, shavings, straw, etc. To prevent burning. In case of fire, sand and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers can be used to remedy it.
