Diphenylthiocarbazone is commonly known as the lead reagent, and chemical reagent. Blue-black crystalline powder, easily oxidized by air, can be protected by adding sulphur dioxide aqueous solution; easily soluble in carbon tetrachloride and chloroform, its solution is unstable, slightly soluble in ethanol, and insoluble in water. For the determination of cobalt, copper, mercury, zinc, and silver; a complex indicator.

Dithizone spectrophotometry is to digest water samples with potassium permanganate and potassium persulfate in an alkaline medium at 95 degrees Celsius to convert inorganic mercury and organic mercury into divalent mercury. The excess oxidant was reduced with hydroxylamine hydrochloride, and dithizone was added to form an orange compound with mercury ions, which was quantified by the calibration curve method.

In short, dithizone spectrophotometry is a method in which dithizone is used as a chelating agent to react with metal ions to form coloured substances, and then the metal ions are determined by spectrophotometry. This is an indirect, extraction spectrophotometric method commonly used in environmental monitoring.

Dithizones are mostly used as reagents for the determination of lead, zinc, bismuth, cobalt, cadmium, copper, mercury, silver, etc.

Determination of lead: In the reducing medium of ammonia citrate-cyanide with a pH of 8.5-9.5, lead and dithizone form a pale red dithizone lead chelate which can be extracted by chloroform, at a wavelength of 510nm The content of lead can be determined by spectrophotometric measurement.

Determination of cadmium: In a strong alkaline solution, cadmium ion and dithizone form a red chelate complex. After chloroform extraction, a spectrophotometric determination is performed at a wavelength of 518 nm, and the standard curve method is used for quantification. The measured concentration range is 1~60μg/L.

This method is suitable for the determination of cadmium in cadmium-contaminated natural water and wastewater. The water sample contains lead 20mg/L, zinc 30mg/L, copper 40mg/L, manganese, and iron 4mg/L, which does not interfere with the determination; when the magnesium ion concentration reaches 20mg/L, more potassium sodium tartrate should be added to the mask.

In addition, dithizone can also measure zinc and mercury. If you want to know how to test, you can pay attention to our update. If you want to buy the product of diphenylthiocarbazone, our product list has high-quality dithizone that meets your expectations, please feel free to contact us.
