Quinine alias: Cinchona, a substance obtained from the bark of the cinchona tree native to South America, has been used by locals as an antipyretic for centuries. Historically, pure quinine powder was a white, odourless, slightly bitter-tasting crystalline powder or granule that was somewhat soluble in water—used to treat malaria and some other diseases. Although there are a variety of antimalarial drugs available on the market, people are still accustomed to using quinine in some areas. Her commercial uses also include an additive to nourishing soups and soft drinks.

Pure quinine powder is a white to transparent crystalline powder with a slightly bitter taste. In the tropics, the bitter taste of her tonic water is very classic, and residents often use it to prevent malaria infection. It was first developed as a preventive antimalarial drug, and many people later added gin to improve the taste.
Modern she usually does not contain enough quinine; although it retains its bitter taste, it is not enough to be used as a preventive antimalarial. If it is for the prevention and treatment of malaria, she can be purchased. She also treats muscle cramps and fever and has been used to promote uterine contractions to speed labour.
Although expensive and slow to produce, she has several advantages over other antimalarial drugs, and the malaria parasites are very slow to develop antibodies to quinine. As a result, it often replaces ineffective drugs to treat drug-resistant malaria. This product works by interfering with DNA synthesis. It can kill schizonts in the intra-erythrocyte phase and control clinical symptoms but has no effect on the pre-erythrocytic, epi- and gametophytic phases of Plasmodium, so it is ineffective for prevention.
Although it has been possible to synthesise the drug, the synthesis process is not perfect. To this day, pure quinine powder is still produced traditionally from the cinchona tree bark.
