1. Raw materials: glucose/sorbitol (converted from starch sugars such as corn and sugarcane).
2. Process (two-step fermentation method, unique in China):
Step 1: Fermentation with weakly oxidizing acetobacter, D-sorbitol → L-sorbose.
Step 2: Fermentation of Gluconobacter oxydans and Bacillus subtilis, L-sorbitol → 2-keto-L-gulonic acid (2-KGA).
3. Chemical conversion: 2-KGA → VC (L-ascorbic acid).
